On a day most of their classmates were celebrating their graduation at Danbury High, seniors Stephen Simalchik and Robert Guider were having a celebration all their own in Greensboro, N.C.

The Danbury throwers were named All-Americans after stellar performances left them standing among the top six in the javelin and hammer throw, respectively, at the Nike Outdoor Nationals on Friday.

In the javelin, Simalchik launched a toss that went 195 feet, earning the Williams College-bound Hatter a fourth place finish in the event.

Guider, meanwhile, delivered a throw of 201-02 on his final attempt, lifting him to a third place finish in the hammer throw.

Guider, who earned All-American honors in the weight throw during the indoor season and will be throwing at Virginia next year, fell short of rival Alex Faldermeyer, of New Hampton, N.Y. The senior, who also won the event at the Dream Invite in Danbury last month, won the hammer throw with a toss of 227-06.
