Jordahl-Henry Powers Wellesley To Fourth Straight Title

By Mary Albl of DyeStat

Led by senior Anna Jordahl-Henry, the Wellesley girls claimed the program's fourth straight MIAA All-State Track and Field title at Westfield State on Saturday.

Jordahl-Henry set a meet record in the 200-meter dash, running 24.31 seconds. Her time, a Massachusetts No.1,  broke the 2013 meet record of 24.43  set by Amanda Henson of Barnstable.

Jordahl-Henry added 10 more points,  as she won the high jump, clearing 5-8.

On the track, Tewksbury Memorial sophomore Makayla Paige won the 800 in a US#12 time of  2:08.41.

Stanford-bound Grace Connolly of Natick won the 2 -mile in 10:34.12, just missing Shalane Flanagan's  999 record of 10:24.21.

Seekonk senior Cameron Garabian won the shot put (45-1) and (123-8).

On the boys side, Lowell repeated as All-State team champions, scoring 50 points to edge out Acton-Boxborough (38) and Newton North (38).

Lowell senior David Ajama scored more than half of the points for his team, winning the high jump (6-8) and grabbing second place finishes in the triple jump (46-3.50) and long jump (23-0.25).

“The state success is a product of the influx of some superior talent, and we’re in a pretty good wave of having some really talented kids,” Lowell coach Dave Casey told the Bostonglobe.com.

New Balance National Indoor shot put champion, Aiden Felty of Innovation Academy had a strong day in the throws, winning the shot (64-9.50) and discus (160-8).

Arlington senior Ryan Oosting concluded his final in-state high school meet with a first-place finish in the 2-mile 9:12.19. Oosting currently holds US#1 time in the event, clocking 8:59.36, a time he set last week at the Divisional championships.
