Oosting wins distance double at Mass All-States

By Mary Albl of DyeStat

Just a sophomore, Ryan Oosting runs like a veteran of the sport. At the Massachusetts Track and Field All-State Championships held at Bridgewater State, the Arlington High distance star won the mile in 4 minutes, 14.44 seconds and the 2-mile in 9:05.85.

"I was feeling good,” said Oosting in an interview with the Boston Herald. “I was just honestly trying to work behind (Newton North's Andrew Mah). Let him lead.”

Mah finished in second in the 2-mile (9:16.80).

Other standout performances included junior Davonte Burnett of Needham, sweeping the 100 (10.63) and 200 (21.36).

In the hurdles, North Andover senior Erick Duffy won the 110s in 14.10 and then claimed the pole vault title, clearing 16-7, a new all-time state record.

In the girls events, Newtown South senior Clare Martin was dominant in the middle distance events, winning the 800 (2:10.80) and mile (4:48.88). In an interview with the Herald, Martin said she dealt with a stress reaction during cross country and indoor track.

"If you told me I’d be running these times during the middle of indoors and end of cross country, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Martin said to the Herald. “I just feel so fortunate to be back running PRs.”

Norton senior Brooke-Lynn Williams won the 100 (12.04) and 200 (24.85). Williams will attend Penn State this fall.

Rodney Agyare-May of Burncoat won his third consecutive title in the 400 meters, running 48.34.
