Yared Nuguse runs to 3A distance trifecta Meet stopped early because of weather; Michaela Reinhart 4:48 1,600 By Mary Albl of DyeStat Distance standout Yared Nuguse continued his impressive spring season on Saturday at the 3A Kentucky State Championships. The senior from DuPont Manual High School swept the distance events at the University of Kentucky, winning the 800 in 1 minute, 54.14 seconds, 1,600 (4:17.94) and 3,200 (9:19.07). Bryan Station's Isaiah McCall turned in a record-setting performance in the 110 meter hurdles as she clocked 13.76, which broke the meet record of 13.80, set in 1975 by James Triplett. Junior Jaci Bickett of Henderson County soared to a new state record in the pole vault clearing 13-03. According to the Lexington Herald Leader, the final two events of the 3A meet (boys and girls 4x400) were canceled by the due to “inclement weather.” As of Sunday morning, there were no plans to run the events. Louisville Male won both the boys and girls team titles. In 2A action, Mercer County's Aaron Johnson led the charge as the junior won the 110 hurdles (14.76), 300 hurdles (39.36) and high jump (6-7) in way to a team title. Lexington Catholic’s Michaela Reinhart ran to victories in the 1,600 (4:48.53 for an all-time Kentucky record) and 3,200, clocking 10:35.36, which set a state meet record. In 1A, the Murray girls repeated as state champs. Sophomore Alexandra Lawson of Fort Knox won the 100 (12.60), 200 (25.81) and 300 hurdles (46.45). The Fort Knox boys won the team title, picking up wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
