Cameron Burkett Smashes Wyoming Shot Put Record By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Carter McComb led a complete team effort for the Sheridan boys on the way to a Class 4A team championship at the Wyoming state championships. McComb won the 100 meters in 10.60 seconds, the 200 in 21.88 seconds and anchored the winning 4x100 relay (42.90). He also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles as he was responsible for a chunk of Sheridan's 134-point team total. The biggest competitions of the meet, however, came in the 4A boys throws. Cameron Burkett of Kelly Walsh launched an all-time state best mark of 65-10.25 (20.07m) to defeat Sheridan's Texas Tanner at 61-10 (18.84m). Burkett also anchored his team's fifth-place 4x100 relay. Then, in the discus, where Tanner is ranked sixth nationally, he threw 194-2 (59.18m). Burkett was second at 166-6 (50.74m). Sheridan's Ryan Karajanis won the pole vault with 15-6 (4.72m). Cheyenne Central won the 4A girls team championship, with big points coming in a 1-2 finish for Sydney Morrell (11:20.22) and Kaya Pillivant (11:25.42) in the 3,200. Sydalee Brown of Campbell County proved to be the fastest girl in Wyoming and won the 100 meters in 12.16 seconds and the 200 in 25.09. She anchored the winning 4x100 relay (49.34) and placed eighth in the triple jump. The state's top sprinter, Addie Pendergast of Sheridan, was not eligible to compete due to the state's transfer rules. Pendergast broke Wyoming's all-time record in the 400 meters this spring. Kate Brigham of Jackson won the 4A 800 in 2:14.34 and the the 1,600 in 4:58.71. Alesha Lane from Natrona Country won the 4A shot put (42-7.50/12.99m) and discus (138-4/42.16m) to cap undefeated seasons in both events. Elayna Chafee of Kelly Walsh won the triple jump with 38-1.25 (11.61m), placed fourth in the long jump with 18-1.50 (5.52m), placed fourth in the 100 (12.62) and third in the 200 (25.84). Taliah Morris from Cheyenne East won the long jump with 18-11 (5.76m), took second in the 100 with 12.23 and was part of a fifth-place 4x100 relay. Snow and wind impacted the first two days of the meet in Casper. Colby Jenks from Big Piney ran the state's fastest 800 meters in the 2A final, clocking 1:55.59. He also won the 1,600 and the 300-meter hurdles and was second in the 400. Ryan Clapper from Southeast won the 1A 100 meters in 10.98 seconds, the 200 in a state-leading time of 21.79 seconds and took second in the 400 (50.19). He also ran on the winning 4x100 relay (43.35).
