GREENSBORO — The Hendo Track Club's 800-meter relay team, composed of Hendersonville's Daniel Orr, Tyler Combs, Brandon Neale and Darryl Demps, ran a 1:28.91 to finish in ninth place in Friday's first day of competition at the NIKE Outdoor Championships at UNC-Greensboro.

Track Eastern Carolina finished in first place with a blazing time of 1:24.80.

Bearcat senior sprinter Demps also raced later in the day in the 400-meter dash Emerging Elite and had a time of 49.89, good enough for 22nd place.

At the 1-A state finals, the Bearcat 800-meter relay team set Hendersonville’s second relay record of the day with a time of 1:28.10, edging Jordan-Matthews’ mark of 1:28.11 set last year.
